My Experience in Classes

During my exchange in Puebla, I had the opportunity to attend different classes, including ethics, logic and sciences. At first, following the lessons was a little challenging because they were taught in Spanish. I managed to understand most of the material, but I had to pay closer attention in class so I wouldn't lose the track of what the teacher was saying. Even though it required more effort, this experience helped me improve my Spanish and become more comfortable using this language.

One thing I noticed was that the classroom dynamics at Instituto Oriente were very similar to those at Colégio Anchieta. The teachers explained the subjects, students participated in activities and we had exercises to practice what we had learned. However, there were some differences between the schools. The classes at Instituto Oriente were considerably smaller (with less students) than the ones at Anchieta. Also, from what I understood, classes change quite often over the years, this means that students from the same grade tend to know each other better. Another difference was that students had one additional class period each day compared to my school in Brazil.

After returning to Brazil, I noticed that my Spanish had improved considerably. This also changed the way I saw my Spanish classes at school. I started finding the lessons more interesting because I could understand more of the language and connect what I was learning with my experiences in Mexico. Overall, the exchange was a great learning experience, it allowed me to experience a different school environment, understand another educational system and become more confident communicating in another language.

Ethics Exam:

Another challenge was the exam week, taking the tests in Spanish made things a bit more difficult, especially when I came across words or expressions I wasn't used to. I also noticed that taking notes during classes required a different approach. Since writing in Spanish took me more time, I had to make my notes shorter or simpler, focusing on the most important information instead of trying to write everything. In the end, I did well in the exams in general, specially in Math (which is like an universal language), and even aced a Sciences exam.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. Studying in another country allowed me to learn not only about different subjects, but also about a different school system and culture. I also much better in Spanish and realized that I could understand much more than I initially expected, and I am very glad I had this opportunity.
